England head coach Sarina Wiegman says that tomorrow night’s fixture against The Netherlands at Elland Road will be very special.

Wiegman spent seven years with the Dutch national team prior to becoming England boss last September. She initially operated in assistant and interim head coach roles before becoming The Netherlands’ permanent head coach in 2017. Wiegman guided the Dutch to their first UEFA Women’s EURO title in 2017 along with a first FIFA Women’s World Cup final appearance two years’ later.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s reunion in Leeds, Wiegman said that she is expecting a special occasion on a personal level.

“It is a very special game,” Wiegman said. “I worked with that team for many years but I now work with England. It is a very special game for me and it will be really nice to see the team again.

“At the end of the day, it is just a game but for me, it is a special game.”

Wiegman went on to say that she is not expecting to see any major changes from The Netherlands from her time in charge.

She said “We are preparing for what we have seen recently from them and we approach it as we do every game. I don’t think they’ve changed that much, there have been some slight changes but the players are still the same and they bring the same qualities, maybe better but hopefully, not tomorrow.

“They have adjusted one or two minor things in their style of play but I just expect us to come up against a very good team that I know pretty well.”

England’s international friendly fixture against The Netherlands kicks-off at 8pm tomorrow night. Fans can buy tickets from the Elland Road ticket office right up until kick-off.
