AC Milan’s Primavera side have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia as they beat Empoli 4-0 away from home this afternoon.
Ignazio Abate’s side came into the game having experienced a rare difficult path recently after two consecutive defeats in the league which have hampered the pursuit of top spot, currently held by Inter.
However, it must be said that in the UEFA Youth League top spot in the group was secured, and in the last two matches the team had to do without several important players called up by Stefano Pioli to the first team due to the injury crisis.
The first half was just what the doctor ordered as the Rossoneri raced out into a two-goal lead against Empoli as Mattia Liberali netted in the 30th minute and Dariusz Stalmach doubled the advantage two minutes later.
A couple of second-half goals added some gloss to the scoreline, with Vittorio Magni and Dorian Paloschi each scoring to secure a four-goal win and a spot in the final eight of the cup.
Next up for Abate’s side is a home game against Genoa on Saturday at lunchtime, with the aim of reversing the negative recent trend in the league.
