Emmanuel Macron has been true to this word and has attempted to use his position as French president to do everything within his power to convince Real Madrid to allow Kylian Mbappé (25) to play at the Paris Olympics.
The France captain has made it known previously that it would be a dream of his to represent France in his hometown. However, his well-suspected free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid will make this dream only a remote possibility.
The Spanish giants have been clear on their position. They do not want any of their French players playing at the summer tournament and have previously written a letter to the French Football Federation declaring this stance.
However, in a lunch held at the Élysée Palace later today to celebrate FIFA’s 120th anniversary, L’Équipe reports that the French president will look to hold face-to-face talks with the president of Real Madrid to convince the club to release Mbappé and the other French players to the tournament.
