Emile Smith Rowe has not travelled with his Arsenal team-mates to face Manchester City on Friday.
The midfielder was not spotted at the Gunners’ team hotel and the Evening Standard now say his absence is due to a thigh issue picked up in training.
The decision to leave Smith Rowe in London has been described as “precautionary” as Arsenal ease him back into action. He has made two brief substitute appearances in 2023 so far.
Smith Rowe has recently been out for four months with a groin injury but this latest setback is not said to be related.
The 22-year-old has played just 49 minutes in the Premier League all season and has not started a game since the end of last season.
