Ange Postecoglou has let himself down today.
I usually think he is one of the better managers, in terms of honesty.
However, Ange Postecoglou simply embarrassing with his comments after Newcastle’s deserved away win.
It just shows what pressure can do, the Spurs boss trying to deflect from his and his team’s shortcomings, by blaming the match officials.
Ange Postecoglou seeing the sack looming with now just five points from the last possible 24, Spurs keeping Man U company down towards just outside the relegation zone. Only Lupentegui at West Ham is ahead of the Aussie in the sack race.
Pretty shameful claiming ‘If it was an even playing field we’d have won’, clearly trying to claim the match officials were biased in favour of Newcastle United.
Quite laughable when it was the other way round!
Somehow four Newcastle players booked and yet it took until the ninth minute of added time for Spurs to pick up a booking.
Newcastle should have had a penalty when a Spurs defender smashed Anthony Gordon in the face, bodychecking him, yet nothing given AND United having to go down to 10 men for a time as the winger had to have treatment for blood streaming down his nose and having to wait to come back on.
A terrible reckless high challenge by Solanke on Dubravka saw his leg make contact with the keeper’s head, at head-height! Again, nothing given.
Whilst repeatedly, Spurs players went down in defensive positions when overplaying the ball, the referee giving a sift free-kick every time.
Then Andy Madley decided to try and keep on playing until Spurs equalised, somehow thinking 14 minutes at the end of the second half was fair…
As for Ange Postecoglou talking about loads of supposed chances and Spurs domination. Newcastle had more shots, more corners and more touches in the opposition box.
Spurs had a bit of a late rally as Newcastle tired and looked to see the game out, however, after scoring on two minutes, Spurs only had three efforts on target and only one of those needed any kind of a proper save from Dubravka. Whilst as well as their two goals, Newcastle had a fair few other great chances, Gordon and Isak in particular should have at least doubled their personal tallies.
The fact the Spurs keeper got man of the match tells you everything.
Ange Postecoglou wanting to clearly make a big deal out of the Gordon goal but in the build up, Joelinton had his hand by his side when a Spurs player kicked the ball off his hand.
Ange Postecoglou speaking to BBC Sport after Newcastle United deservedly took all three points in this 2-1 away win:
“On the balance of play, any balance you want with all things being equal, we would have won today.
“Outstanding. I couldn’t be prouder of the players. I couldn’t ask any more. It’s a game we would have won if all things were equal.
“If all things were equal and balanced we would have won today. Things weren’t equal and balanced.”
Ange postecoglou asked what was not equal and he was talking about Anthony Gordon’s goal:
“You can talk about whatever you want.
“You want my opinion – if all things were equal and balanced we would have won.
“We had plenty of chances.
“Our football was outstanding considering everything we’re going through.
“If it was an even playing field we’d have won.”
