With Andre Onana set to miss the whole of pre-season and possibly even the start of the season due to injury, there was a chance for one of the goalkeepers within the club to stake their claim for the No.1 jersey.

Backup keeper Altay Bayindir failed to impress when called upon last season, and the Turkey international is likely to be sold. So far, a return to his homeland has not materialised.

Tom Heaton impressed against Leeds, but Ruben Amorim might want to blood someone new instead of turning to the England international.

Elyh Harrison caught the head coach’s eye last season, so much so that he was denied a loan exit last January in a bid to add competition for Onana. He had made the bench eight times last term.

He was recalled from a successful temporary spell at National League North side Chester FC, where the then-18-year-old helped keep seven clean sheets in 18 starts at the Deva Stadium.

The Peoples Person had relayed that the Old Trafford side had come to a consensus that the 19-year-old would stay at the Theatre of Dreams for the upcoming campaign while Radek Vitek would be sold.

But the Carrington wonderkid might not get the chance to further impress Amorim with the highly-rated shot-stopper set to join Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan as per The Manchester Evening News.

Former United academy graduate Michael Appleton is at the helm of the League Two outfit, another reason for the loan to be arranged.

Shrewsbury loan arranged

“Manchester United goalkeeper Elyh Harrison is set to join Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan.

“The 19-year-old is one of the most highly rated goalkeeping prospects to come through the academy. Harrison’s loan to Shrewsbury has been agreed for some time, but the move has been held up by an injury to Andre Onana, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury.”

Former United goalie Dean Henderson had also played for Shrewsbury on loan and excelled, and the Red Devils will be hoping for a similar outcome.

Academy coaches feel Elyh Harrison has the potential to become a first-team regular so it is imperative for the club to arrange the right loans for him.
