An important member of the Atlas Lions U23 team, the Monegasque attacking midfielder climbed onto the podium and left with a medal from the Games. Morocco won the third place match against Egypt, to grab Bronze at the Stade de la Beaujoire (0-6).

A first Monegasque medalist! While waiting for the final of the French Team involving Maghnes Akliouche, Soungoutou Magassa and Chrislain Matsima this Friday (6 p.m.), an AS Monaco player is already leaving the Games with a medal around his neck. A member of the Moroccan selection, Eliesse Ben Seghir saw the Atlas Lions win in the final for third place against Egypt in Nantes this Thursday (0-6).

A one-sided start to the match

It was a one-sided encounter, since the “Lion Cubs” made the difference after half an hour of play. Without the attacking midfielder trained at La Diagonale, a substitute at kick-off, the teammates of the captain, Achraf Hakimi, opened the scoring on a superb ball from Abde Ezzalzouli (0-1, 23′). This was before doubling the lead in three minutes, through the competition’s top scorer, Soufiane Rahimi (0-2, 26′).

Rahimi, the X factor

Ultra-clinical, the Moroccans were not going to let the Pharaohs get back into the game, since after the break, Bilal El-Khannouss would hammer home the result (0-3, 51′). This was until another from the essential Rahimi, scorer of a double, for his seventh goal in the tournament (0-4, 64′). For the record, Akram Nakach (0-5, 73′), then Achraf Hakimi (0-6, 87′) after the entry of Eliesse Ben Seghir (77′), would increase the score, sealing a triumphant victory.

A first Monegasque medallist!

A starter in four Lions matches in these Games, the young talent from the Academy therefore won Bronze with his country and therefore leaves for the Principality with a medal around his neck. He thus opens the way to his three teammates, who will win at least silver. Daghe Eliesse! 🥉
