Former Huddersfield Town and current Bolton Wanderers player Elias Kachunga has sent a message to his former Terriers teammate Michael Hefele amid the current managerial vacancy at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Last week, the club relieved Danny Schofield from his duties as manager, with the Terriers yet to name his permanent successor.

Narcís Pèlach and Paul Harsley took temporary charge of the Terriers’ 1-0 win at home against Cardiff City prior to the international break, however, it appears Kachunga could potentially like to see his former teammate in the dugout.

That’s according to his recent comment on Michael Hefele’s Instagram account.

Hefele returned to the club as a coach last summer having racked up 48 appearances during his time at the John Smith’s Stadium and posed a picture of himself in training.

As can be seen in the top comment under the Instagram post, Kachunga wrote: “New gaffer loading 💙👏🏾.”

Interestingly, the comment garnered 19 likes – more than any other comment that can be seen under the post, and even got a reply from the man himself.

Hefele replied to Kachunga with an hourglass emoji, perhaps suggesting that it was only a matter of time before he did become a manager, although that is reading inbetween the lines and  does not necessarily correlate to the Huddersfield job, of course.

The Terriers face Championship high-flyers Reading on the 1st of October following the international break.

Surely by that date the Terriers will hope to have appointed Danny Schofield’s permanent successor.

The Verdict

I think that this was simply a light-hearted comment by Elias Kachunga, but it is interesting to see it be liked a few times by what are mostly likely Huddersfield fans.

Personally, I believe that after Danny Schofield the Terriers need a somewhat experienced manager in the dugout and Hefele unfortunately does not fit that.

You do wonder whether his knowledge of the club and players could make up for that lack of experience though.

It would be a gamble given how Schofield’s tenure went, but, we have seen stranger things in football.
