Barcelona took on Elche at the Estadio Martinez Valero immediately after the international break, which helped them seal a fifteen-point lead on top of La Liga, with Real Madrid trailing them.

Robert Lewandowski, Ansu Fati, and Ferran Torres were on target for the blaugranes in the 0-4 win, but Gavi was arguably the best player on the pitch, starting in his natural central midfield role.

The Spaniard came away with an assist, four key passes, two big chances created, and four dribbles completed.

However, Elche are clearly not happy with Gavi playing, though, and are set to take legal action against Barcelona, according to a report by Isaac Fuoto on Tiempo de Juego.

Gavi’s registration in the senior team was overturned by the Spanish judiciary after Barcelona had penned him to a new contract with the first-team. The Spaniard returned to his Juvenil A deal with his old #30 jersey.

According to article 141 of the RFEF, though, a player is not allowed to play again once his registration has been cancelled.

Fuoto also says that La Liga says that Barcelona had obtained ‘precautionary measure’ regarding Gavi’s registration, which is above the RFEF regulations. However, if a club chooses to challenge this, it would eventually be decided by the committee.

Elche’s position in the league (20th) did not change despite Barcelona’s win, and the difference between them and 19th-placed Valencia remains 13.

It would be unlikely that RFEF chooses to overturn the result given La Liga decided to appeal Gavi’s registration in court, and the player was forced to return to his previous contract.

Either way, though, Elche have not yet moved ahead with legal action. More movement is expected is expected in the coming days regarding this controversy.
