MIAMI — The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Seychelles 2025™ continued Sunday, as El Salvador fell to Oman 7-6 on penalties following a 4-4 draw in regular time in Group D at The Paradise Arena in Victoria, Seychelles.
Emerson Cerna scored the first goal for El Salvador from a bicycle kick in the 5’ 1P, tying the encounter after Oman had taken the lead in the 12’ 1P through Musallam Al Araimi.
José Batres put the reigning Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship winners in front in the 7’ 2P, using his body to get in front of the defender before striking with power in front of goal.
The two nations exchanged goals from the penalty spot in the second period. Oman tied the match in the 5’ 2P through Yahya Al Muraiki before Andersson Castro converted his own attempt in the 1’ 2P to retake the lead for La Selecta.
Frank Velásquez added a fourth for El Salvador in the 7’ 3P. Oman would respond with two goals to send the match to extra time, with Salim Al Oraimi and Sami Al Bulushi striking in the 7’ and 2’ of the third period, respectively.
The two teams would continue deadlocked in extra time to force penalties for the lone point at stake. Oman prevailed in sudden death, winning 7-6 on penalties.
El Salvador’s hopes to advance to the knockout stage remained alive after a Brazil 2-1 win against Italy later in the day.
La Selecta will return to the sand at The Paradise Arena to open Tuesday’s activities against Italy, needing a victory and a better goal difference over its opponents to help its quarterfinal hopes.
