Florian Plettenberg reports that Eintracht Frankfurt will sign Belgian defender Arthur Theate from Rennes on a permanent basis for a base fee of €13m plus a further €6m in bonuses.
Because of certain conditions, the option to buy turned into an obligation, and of the €6m in bonuses, €3m can be easily reached while the remaining €3m in performance-related bonuses would be difficult to achieve, but Sky Germany’s report doesn’t state what these are.
Theate (24) – who will sign a long-term contract until 2029 – has played 26 games across all competitions for Eintracht this season and has established himself as a key player in the squad, prompting the Hessen club to sign the Belgian on a permanent basis.
The Belgium international arrived in Frankfurt as a replacement for Willian Pacho, who joined Paris Saint-Gemain last summer for €45m. To sign Theate, Eintracht had to ward off interest from Al-Ittihad.
