As reported by Sky Germany, Eintracht Frankfurt have agreed personal terms with PSG striker Hugo Ekitike.

As previously reported, despite Die Adler’s long-standing admiration for Ekitike, there was considerable doubt that a deal could be reached due to the financial implications of the deal. With Eintracht unwilling to break their wage structure at the club, there was speculation that the French striker would forego a substantial amount of his salary to join SGE.

Now, there has been a breakthrough in discussions, with Ekitike understood to be willing to decrease his annual salary from €4 million to €3 million. However, talks with PSG have only just begun concerning an acceptable transfer fee for the 21-year-old.

Regardless, Eintracht board spokesman Axel Hellmann commented on the club’s wish to bring Ekitike to the Bundesliga: “It is known that we were already interested in the player in the summer. We are monitoring the whole thing closely, but we also have a financial framework that must be adhered to, and that does not consist of the transfer fee but, above all, the salary structure. Of course, all of this has to be weighed up for a player who is under contract with PSG.”

With Die Adler chasing down the top four in the Bundesliga as they set their sights on the Champions League places, the signing of Ekitike could make all the difference come May. Only Freiburg have scored fewer goals than SGE in the top eight of the Bundesliga so far this season, and if he can strike up a formidable partnership with Omar Marmoush when he returns from the African Cup of Nations, then Dino Toppmöller’s side could be a force to be reckoned with.
