A round-up as the Eagles return to training, albeit with not everyone available yet.

There was special praise at the start for the players, who “have all come back fit” from their individual programmes during the 11-day Christmas break, as head coach Oliver Glasner reported a few hours before the start of training.

Christopher Lenz and Jens Petter Hauge are still nursing muscular injuries. “It could well be that it takes another week or two,” revealed Glasner. In any case, the home match against Borussia Dortmund on 8 January will come too soon for the pair.

Elsewhere, Jens Grahl, Kristijan Jakic and Goncalo Paciencia are isolating at home following their positive COVID-19 tests. Rafael Santos Borré will return to training next week having been given an extended holiday, since the Colombian has probably done the most international travelling over the last six months. Aymen Barkok is with the Morocco national team preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations, which takes place in Cameroon from 9 January to 6 February.

According to Glasner, there will be no special focus in the following days: “We want to continue to improve our football. I see room for improvement in all areas.”
