Eight game unbeaten run helping SK Beveren turn season around

Last season, SK Beveren pushed RWDM all the way for promotion to the Belgian Pro League. Unfortunately, the side missed out and as only one team was promoted, they had to settle for another season in the Challenger Pro League. The hangover from this near miss appeared to have damaged the side’s morale, as they began this 2023/2024 season poorly.

However, since a 3-0 defeat to Zutle Waregem back in October, the side from just outside of Antwerp have gone on an incredible eight game unbeaten run in the league. In all competitions they have only lost once, which came in the domestic cup against Union St Gilloise. At the weekend SK Beveren ran out 2-1 winners over Genk, which see’s them sitting in the top six. Finishing there gives them a chance of promotion via the play-offs, but their ambitions are for automatic promotion. The unbeaten run has brought them within six points of the top two (Beerschot and Zulte Waregem).

Central African Republic international Goduine Koyalipou is leading the team with six goals so far, while in recent weeks Anthony Limbombe has also began to emerge as a key player for the team. The 29-year-old, who has played for a handful of teams in both the Netherlands and Belgium, has grabbed four goals and four assists.

Following the winter break SK Beveren will face SL16 in January, with February seeing them up against Zulte Waregem once again.
