West Brom started the game in a 3-4-2-1 formation with Callum Robinson back in the lineup.

West Brom maintained the same formation even after introducing three substitutes to the game in the second half.

Derby County started in a 3-4-1-2 formation with Sam Baldock and Kamil Jozwiak leading the attack.

The average positions of the Derby players was deeper when compared to West Brom players as they spent more time defending against the West Brom attacks.

West Brom recorded a high xG of 2.71 while Derby had a very low xG of 0.14. West Brom attempted 22 shots on goal throughout the whole match. Derby only attempted four shots on target. West Brom had a ppda of 2.9 which means they only allowed an average of three passes by the Derby players before they attempted a defensive action.

West Brom put all they could into the game and tried to attack the Derby County. They attempted 22 shots and 49 crosses. Derby failed to get any noticeable numbers in terms of shots as well as crosses. Derby had more number of through pass attempts which indicates they were trying to look for a breakthrough with the help of counter attacks.

West Brom had eight shots on target and were denied by the Derby goalkeeper with some excellent saves. One of their efforts was even cleared off the line. They had 16 attempts on goal from inside the box.

Derby only had four attempts on goal throughout the game and failed to keep any of those shots on target.

Furlong had the most number of attempts on goal and also had the highest xG than any other player on the pitch.  The xT timeline indicates West Brom were creating a threat for the Derby defence frequently and dominated the game throughout. Derby had a decent phase towards the end of the first half when they created a few opportunities.

Darnell Furlong attempted 58 passes but was unable to complete 34 of those passes. Alex Mowatt attempted the most number of passes and made 10 passes to his left back Adam Reach.

Derby failed to pass the ball around as they were chasing the ball for majority of the game. Whenever they won the ball, they were pressed by the West Brom players and gave the ball away easily.The pass zones indicate that West Brom made more use of the wider areas to get forward and put balls into the box. They flooded the opposition penalty box with crosses from either side of the pitch. Darnell Furlong attempted 13 crosses from the right flank while Adam Reach attempted 15 crosses from the left flank.

The higher number of high passes indicate that Derby were trying to play final balls from their own half behind the West Brom defenders. Derby only attempted three crosses into the box.

West Brom created most of their chances from the left side of the pitch with the crosses attempted by Adam Reach. He had a very high xT from his passes of 1.304 and caused problems for the Derby defence.

Diangana impressed with his dribbling skills but failed to provide the right passes as seen from the above visual. Darnell Furlong also had a high xT from the dribbles he attempted.

Derby County had a few moments when they threatened the West Brom defence from the left flank. Phil Jagielka had a high xT from the final balls he attempted from his own half.

The Derby players had a low xT from their passes as most of their attempts of through balls were from their own half.

West Brom defenders were able to deal with the Derby attackers with ease and they won most of the defensive duels they attempted.

The West Brom defenders had a high success rate in winning aerial duels as they won 35 out of their 45 attempts. Kyle Bartley only lost three of the 18 aerial duels he attempted. Most of these duels were in the opposition penalty area.

The West Brom players also tried to win more loose ball duels higher up the pitch and start an attack on the opposition.Derby County players lost most of the defensive duels they attempted.

Curtis Davies helped his team defend the West Brom attacks as he won nine out of the 11 aerial duels he attempted.

Derby County players had a better success rate in winning loose ball duels. Phil Jagielka won eight out of the nine loose ball duels he attempted.

Like their previous match against Millwall, West Brom failed to capitalise on the chances they created. Derby County played well as they dealt with the pressure of the continuous attacks by the Baggies.
