Huddersfield Town started in a 5-4-1 formation with Danny Ward leading the attack.

Huddersfield made all three changes on the right side as they replaced their right centre back, right wing-back and right-winger.

Hull City started in a 4-2-2-2 formation.

Hull City made three changes in the second half as they searched for a breakthrough.

Huddersfield Town had a slightly higher xG than Hull City. They attempted 11 shots on goal and had four shots on target. Hull City dominated possession of the ball but Huddersfield capitalised on the chances they created and were clinical in front of goal.

Hull City made more attacking actions but were not able to score a goal. Huddersfield on the other hand attempted lesser attacking actions but were effective in front of goal.

Huddersfield attempted a total of 11 shots in the game but only attempted two shots from inside the penalty area. Almost all the shots they attempted on goal were from outside the penalty area, which is why they did not have a very high xG.

Hull City managed to keep two of their eight shots on target, but were not able to finish those chances. They also had a direct free-kick which was on target but was saved.

Huddersfield scored an early goal which is why they have a higher xG since the start of the game, whereas Hull City failed to create any threat on the opposition defence in the first half. Huddersfield centre back, Tom Lees had the highest xG of any other player on the pitch.

Huddersfield completed a lesser number of passes than their opponents and misplaced 108 passes throughout the game. Jonathan Hogg attempted the most number of passes for the Terriers.

Callum Elder attempted 65 passes for Hull but misplaced 24 of those passes. Jacob Greaves received the most number of passes from his teammates.

Huddersfield completed more passes near the wider areas of the pitch and attacked using the wings. They attempted eight smart passes and also attempted a high number of crosses from both flanks.

Hull City made most passes on the left flank in the final third as they attempted a whole lot of crosses from the same flank. They flooded the penalty area with crosses in an attempt to score a goal. The above visual indicate that Huddersfield Town did not have many xT creation zones in the final third where they created a high threat on the opposition. Most of their players had a high xT from the passes they attempted.

Duane Holmes impressed for the hosts as he had an overall high xT with the passes and dribbles that he attempted.

Hull City had more number of xT creation zones in the wider areas as seen earlier in the passing zones visual. Their full-backs had the highest xT from the passes they attempted.

Hull City’s full-backs had a high xT but at times they failed to make the right pass when they were in the most threatening positions. Callum Elder had a high overall xT from the passes and dribbles that he attempted.

Huddersfield lost most of the defensive duels they attempted while defending in their own half.

Huddersfield’s centre backs played a vital role in denying the Hull City crosses and keeping a clean sheet. Levi Colwill and Tom Lees only lost two of the 15 aerial duels that they attempted.

Danny Ward managed to press the ball high and maintain pressure on the Hull City defenders but was not able to win the 50-50 challenges that he attempted.

Andy Cannon attempted the most number of defensive duels for his team. He attempted 18 duels and won only four of these duels.

Jacob Greaves won five aerial duels out of the eight duels they attempted.

Hull City attempted 34 loose ball duels and won 44% of these duels.

Huddersfield came out victorious in a game where Hull City had quite a few chances that could’ve changed the final scoreline if they were more effective in front of the goal. Huddersfield are now in sixth position with 20 points on board while Hull are struggling on 21st with only nine points.
