EFL signs record broadcasting deal with Sky Sports | OneFootball

The English Football League (EFL) have confirmed they have approved a record broadcasting deal with Sky Sports worth £935 million.

The recommendation was put forward by the EFL board and commercial committee before receiving a unanimous endorsement from the EFL clubs.

The new broadcasting deal represents a 50% increase in the value of the current rights agreement and will see over 1,000 matches being streamed over five years.

The new development will come as a boost to clubs in the lower leagues, with at least ten live EFL fixtures being broadcast every weekend.

Five matches from the Championship will be televised, while League One and League Two will also benefit from greater coverage than before, with five of their games being aired live.

Fans will also be able to watch every match from the Carabao Cup and EFL Trophy, while all opening and final day games, as well as matches played in League One & Two during international breaks, will also be broadcast.

“After completing an extensive tender and negotiation process, this is a landmark broadcast deal for EFL clubs, establishing the league as a premium partner with a world-renowned broadcaster in Sky Sports,” EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch said.

“For decades, Sky Sports has been a fantastic broadcast partner for both the EFL and English football, helping our sport grow through its sustained support.

“We are delighted to announce this innovative agreement that combines the strength of an established brand with a modern streaming service for the benefit of EFL clubs, fans and Sky Sports alike.”

Sky Sports managing director Jonathan Licht added: “This is the biggest deal in football, in terms of the number of matches being broadcast, and we look forward to working with the EFL and its 72 member clubs to give fans the most entertaining viewing experience.”

Despite striking their biggest-ever deal with the broadcasting company, the EFL’s deal is worth only a fraction of the value of the Premier League’s.

The English top flight signed a new three-year deal with Sky Sports, BT Sports and Amazon worth around £5 billion, set to run until the 2024/25 campaign.
