Some of the Football League will be able to benefit from an enforced break next season, with the EFL having drawn up and confirmed its plans regarding the upcoming campaign.

Of course, many will realise that the FIFA 2022 World Cup will be taking place in the Winter of 2022 when Qatar host the much-criticised competition, with the tournament scheduled to take place in about a year’s time.

Over the 5-week period between November 2022 and December 2022, many will be able to visit the Canadian betting-sites.ca website and find the best sportsbooks offering the top odds possible so they can pick the team that they believe will be lifting the golden Jules Rimet trophy just a few days ahead of Christmas.

Indeed, the EFL has decided to act accordingly with those dates in mind and has subsequently provided everyone with a press release that details everything that a fan and football club in the Football League can expect when the time comes.

Interestingly, the 2022/23 season will begin as expected as fixtures in the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two will all begin on the weekend of Saturday 30 July 2022; a week or so before the traditional Premier League start.

However, it appears a break after the conclusion of match round 16 (weekend of 12/13 November) will take place, with players expected to be called into their international squads from the following day onwards.

This break, though, will only apply to teams in the Championship, as they will resume league football from the 10 December whilst postponements could be made depending on how well players do at the Finals. Teams in League One and League Two will continue to play their football as normal.

In addition, there are a number of other tournaments that have had to be rescheduled due to the Winter FIFA World Cup, with the Carabao Cup getting underway in the week that begins 8 August, whereas the Papa John’s Trophy will start later that month, with the first slate of fixtures scheduled for the week commencing 29 August.

This means the finals of both competitions will take place at Wembley Stadium, with the Carabao Cup taking place on Sunday 26 February and the Papa John’s Trophy slated for Sunday 19 March 2023.

As mentioned in the press release by the EFL, the final day of the 2022/23 season in the Championship, League One and League Two will be across the weekend of Saturday 6 May 2023, with the Sky Bet EFL Play-Off Finals scheduled for the 27-29 May 2023.
