Scott Parker’s arrival at Bournemouth over the summer seemed like something of a sideways move from the outside.

Having taken Fulham down but earning plenty of admirers in the process, the jury was out on whether the former Chelsea midfielder could take the Cherries back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

With over a quarter of the Championship season gone, we think it’s safe to say that he’s been a resounding success.

Bournemouth hosted Huddersfield on Saturday, who themselves had been a pretty decent run under coach Carlos Corberán.

But the home side totally blew away the Terriers as Dominic Solanke, for so long the bridesmaid of English strikers, netted two to take his season’s tally to 11.

Lloyd Kelly put a cap on the win in the second half as Parker’s side ran out 3-0 victors.

That’s now 34 points from 14 games, four points head of Fulham in second place and an unbeaten start to life in the Vitality dugout for their new manager.

Honourable mentions

Saturday was the end of the road for Mick McCarthy at Cardiff as the Bluebirds lost their eighth game in a row.

Middlesbrough beat the Welsh side 2-0 as goals from Andraz Sprorar and Martin Payero saw McCarthy sacked at full-time.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Fulham burst Steve Cooper’s bubble at Nottingham Forest as the Cottagers went to the City Ground and won 4-0.

Cooper had enjoyed a brilliant start to life in the east Midland but Marco Silva’s men showed their class with a thoroughly impressive victory.

In League One is a brilliant weekend for Doncaster who claimed just their third win of the season by beating Cheltenham 3-2 in a topsy-turvy encounter.

Donny had gone 3-0 up on 54 minutes but the away side would rue a missed penalty on the hour mark as they netted two late on but just missed out on the points.
