EFL Match Preview: Middlesbrough vs Peterborough – shots from positional attacks, ppda and more | OneFootball

Middlesbrough host Peterborough United at Riverside Stadium on Saturday in the EFL Championship with the start of club football after the international break.

We look at some stats to predict the match.

A disappointing start and results see Middlesbrough finding themselves in the lower mid of the table currently in 16th position. With five losses in eleven matches and just 12 matches they have struggled so far this campaign and have only won two of their last five matches, losing three. Neil Warnock’s men will not find a better opportunity to bounce back in their match against Peterborough and will most likely look to take full advantage of it.

Boro has only scored 11 goals from an xG of 13.43 and have underperformed their metric. They have conceded 13 goals in return which has not helped them in any way.

Peterborough have not been any better than their counterparts, rather worse than them. They sit on 23rd in the league, well inside the relegation zone with only eight points out of 11 matches, losing seven of them. They have lost three of their last five as well and no immediate change in their performance will certainly hold their survival fight at stake.

They have scored 12 goals from an xG of 10.28, slightly overperforming the metric. Still, concerns remain over their attack, as we can see in the above image that they have the least number of shots from positional attacks which clearly shows their inability to keep hold of their possession.

Middlesbrough are also on the lower side of the league average with 62 shots but are way better than their opposition. If they can keep possession and create chances, they can very well hurt Peterborough.

Middlesbrough have the fourth lowest ppda in the division of 8.273 which shows they have not let any team play a lot of passes and create chances in front of their penalty area. They have been keeping up a high press and have not been reluctant in making challenges to take the ball away which certainly does not compliment Peterborough’ struggle up the pitch.

With the third most ppda of 13.118, Peterborough have given others ample amount of time to play passes before taking any actions and have conceded 23 goals, the most in the league. If they fail to bring changes here, Middlesbrough would certainly take advantage of this.
