John Coleman says Dion Charles is not showing commitment to Accrington Stanley at the moment.

Charles enjoyed an excellent season in front of goal last term, netting 20 goals in 47 games across all competitions.

The Northern Ireland international netted 19 of those goals in League One, as they finished 11th in the league table.

This season, though, Charles is yet to find the net in six League One appearances, and his only goal came in the Carabao Cup against Rotherham United.

Charles has been left out of Accrington’s squad for their last five League One matches, with Coleman now providing an update on his situation.

Via the Lancashire Telegraph, he said: “Dion needs to realise it’s a two-way process football. We have given him a massive lift-up into his career and he has got to show commitment to the club and, at this moment in time, he is not.”

Charles’ form in front of goal last season saw him be linked with the likes of Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town.

But at the moment, it looks as if other options will be considered due to Charles’ lack of game time and lack of form in the final third.

The Verdict

It’s a real shame for Charles as last season he earned plenty of rave reviews and reaped rewards.

He couldn’t stop scoring in League One and was even given a chance to shine on the international stage for Northern Ireland.

But maybe failing to secure a move away has played on his mind and disappointed him, hence his lack of involvement this term.

He needs to get back amongst the team and start scoring again.
