EFL issue statement regarding off-field Derby County issues | OneFootball

The EFL have revealed that no agreement has been reached as of yet with Derby County in regards to further sanctions over the financial mismanagement of the rams, despite reports stating otherwise.

It emerged last night from Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail that an agreement in principle has been made between the two parties which would see the Rams deducted nine points from their current Championship tally immediately, with a further three suspended until next year should they fall foul of any more regulations.

But a stumbling block still persisted in the form of County’s lack of business plan, which had still yet to be agreed with the EFL so a deal at that time could not be concluded.

The EFL have now stated that talks remain ongoing with Derby regarding their Profit & Sustainability breaches and that no decision has yet been finalised.

And they have outlined that independent ratification is required should a points deduction agreement be agreed between the two parties, meaning that a third party will at some point need to be involved in whatever decision the EFL and the Rams come to.

The Verdict

It seems as though reports regarding a potential points deduction could have come a bit too prematurely, but this could also just be the EFL playing it safe.

There’s every chance that there could be an agreement in principle, but everything has to come together into one and that includes the business plan.

Without that, the Rams cannot move forward and the EFL wrangle with continue, so it’s important for that to get sorted as soon as possible to remove any uncertainty.

Wayne Rooney is probably one of the most frustrated managers in the country right now and he’s been heavily restricted all summer on what he can do, and it may be a case of taking the points deduction sooner rather than later so the England legend can work on turning things around from an early stage.
