Brendan Rodgers’ men were the ones who took the lead inside the first 20 minutes as Youri Tielemans finished off a well-worked move.

Wolves leave it late to beat Gillingham

Scorers: Jimenez (PEN) 77′, Aït-Nouri 90+1′

Gillingham held out for almost 80 minutes but Raul Jimenez’s late penalty ensured Wolves progressed to the next round.

It was youngster Joe Hodge who had the best chance of the half late on as he headed wide from close range when it looked easier to score.

But Julen Lopetegui’s men really should have opened the scoring in stoppage time only for Ruben Neves’s effort to crash back off the post.

And then it was defender Rayan Aït-Nouri who scored the second in injury time to confirm the victory.

Southampton need Adams double to beat Lincoln
