Newcastle United earned safe passage into the EFL Cup final on Tuesday night with a 3-1 aggregate win over Southampton.
The Magpies will discover their opponents for this month’s final this evening when Manchester United host Nottingham Forest.
The Red Devils hold a 3-0 lead going into tonight’s clash having moved one step closer to Wembley with a first leg win at the City Ground last week.
Forest will feel they had their chances to keep the scoreline competitive, but United’s attacking quality proved the difference between the two sides a week ago.
A spirited second leg comeback will be needed for Forest to have any chance of making their way to face Newcastle in the final.
Latest team news
Erik ten Hag will be without Christian Eriksen following the midfielder’s injury from last weekend in the cup win over Reading.
However, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho are expected to return to the matchday squad for what could be a rotated starting lineup due to the team’s commanding first leg lead.
Meanwhile, Forest will still be without Dean Henderson as he is both cup tied and injured.
Morgan Gibbs-White is also expected to miss tonight’s game, with Jack Colback, Chris Wood and Ryan Yates all set to miss out as well.
Score prediction
2-0 win to United.
