Coventry City will look to keep their 100% record at home when they host Middlesbrough at the Coventry Building Society Arena in the EFL Championship. Coventry have managed to secure three wins and the visitors have only lost one match this season. Both teams will believe they can take maximum points out of this game.
Coventry are currently seventh in the league with nine points out of the possible 15. Their last match was a 2-0 defeat away at QPR before the international break. But the home team will go with a lot of confidence in this game as they have attempted the most shots in the league this season. The team has managed to take 81 shots and averages around 16 shots per game. Their XG threat is third best this season with 9.56 and only behind league leaders Fulham and second place West Brom.
The home team has been the most attacking team this season with a total of 347 attacking actions in the five games. Along with this they have penetrated the opposition box with 119 touches in total and only behind Fulham. Defensively the team has contested highest number of aerial duels in the league along with 467 recoveries which is the fifth best in the league.
Scoring goals is the biggest concern for Coventry this season. The team has only managed to find the back of the net five times. The conversion rate is very less when we look at the attacking actions and XG threat. Out of the 81 shots taken, only 23 have been on target with a conversion rate of 22%.
Viktor Gyokeres has been the main threat for Coventry and the Swedish international has managed to score two goals along with an assist in the five matches played so far.
Middlesbrough on the other hand has had a mixed start to the season. The team sits 13th on the table with one win, three draws and one loss in the six games played. Boro were unable to make use of the chances created and had to settle for one point in a disappointing 1-1 draw against Blackburn with both the teams finishing with 10 men.
The visitors have performed well while attacking and managed to create 295 attacking actions in the season. Along with this, they have a very high accuracy rate when it comes to passes into the final third of the opposition area. Boro are ranked third in the list of recoveries made in the opposition half and Neil Warnock’s side is creating more and more chances as the season in progressing.
Passing the ball is a major concern for Boro and are ranked fourth last in the list of number of passes attempted this season. Although the team has a high accuracy rate for passes into final third, but they haven’t managed to produce enough passes that would trouble the opposition. The forward passes are quite less in number when compared to other teams.
Uche Ikpeazu and Matty Crooks have played well after signing for the club in summer transfer window this season. Uche has scored two goals and has assisted in one goal, whereas Crooks has bagged two goals.
Coventry City definitely looks like more threatening between the two teams when we look from the attacking point of view. Both the teams are yet to capitalize on the opportunities they have created. Coventry will be the favorites to win this match as the team has taken maximum points at home this season.
