Ajax have confirmed that former goalkeeper and chief executive Edwin van der Sar is intensive care after suffering a cerebral haemorrhage.

According to De Telegraaf, Van der Sar was admitted to hospital on Friday afternoon while on holiday with his family in Croatia.

“On Friday, Edwin van der Sar has had a bleeding around his brain,” read an official statement.

“He’s currently in hospital in the intensive care unit and is in a stable condition. Once there is more concrete information, an update will follow.

“Everyone at Ajax wishes Edwin a speedy recovery. We’re thinking of you.”

The 52-year-old recently stepped down as chief executive of Ajax in May, following their disappointing 2022/23 campaign.
