Championship side Peterborough United have struggled to adapt to life in the second tier so far this season, despite some bright moments.

The concession of 23 goals in 11 games is something that will give them no chance of staying up if they maintain this current defensive record – and is perhaps something that will give Darragh MacAnthony, Barry Fry, Darren Ferguson and other club officials food for thought going into the January transfer window – even with the limited financial resources.

According to Football Insider, he was scouted by top-flight giants Tottenham Hotspur last month ahead of a potential move to the capital, with Manchester United and Brentford also reported to be interested in a move.

United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, father of Peterborough’s Darren, has told officials at Old Trafford to recruit the 18-year-old, as per the Daily Express, although they may face a tough time at the negotiating table.

The defender only signed a new contract at London Road in May to keep him at the club until 2025, so a sizeable figure will be required to lure him away from the Championship as things stand.

After handing in a transfer request in January, Dembele’s future at Peterborough has looked uncertain ever since, and it makes you wonder whether they would be willing to cash in this January to re-invest in other players.

While it wouldn’t make sense to sell the 25-year-old with Jack Marriott out for around five months, they could utilise the revenue they could potentially generate from Dembele’s sale to bring in two strikers in their quest to stay above the drop zone.

So in the end, his potential exit could depend on whether the Championship club already have a few targets lined up that they want to pursue, and whether they think these players will be available and affordable in the January market.
