Bundesliga football club TSG Hoffenheim have strengthened their defensive ranks by bringing in Eduardo Quaresma. The Kraichgau club have initially signed the 20-year-old Portuguese centre-back on a season-long loan deal from Sporting but have also agreed a purchase option. The current Portugal U21 international spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan from Sporting at Tondela.
"Eduardo is as young as he is talented and has already played a full season at a high level in the Portuguese top flight. With his speed, good defensive work and footballing abilities, he has some extremely promising attributes that will allow him to put pressure on and challenge the established centre-backs," TSG director of football Alexander Rosen said. "We already announced towards the end of last season that we needed to improve defensively and that we were actively looking for reinforcements. David Raum's transfer has given us the necessary leeway, so in addition to Ozan Kabak and Stanley Nsoki, we now have another exciting option in the squad in Eduardo Quaresma."
"For me, TSG offers the ideal environment to continue my development. Numerous players have already shown to what degree that is possible here and TSG Hoffenheim enjoy this reputation in Portugal too," said Eduardo Quaresma as he looked ahead to his time in Kraichgau. "The club is synonymous with fresh, modern and ambitious football. I'm curious about my new team and everything that lies ahead."
Eduardo Quaresma, who came through the youth ranks at Sporting, made 25 league appearances for Tondela last season, notching two goals and one assist. He also helped Tondela reach the final of the Portuguese cup this May, where his team suffered a 3-1 defeat by Porto. On the international front, Quaresma has represented his country at every youth level.
