Chelsea ‘keeper Edouard Mendy has praised Liverpool duo Mo Salah and Sadio Mane and described the pair as ‘role models’ for those of the younger generation.

The African forwards are two of the world’s best players and are a huge reason why Jurgen Klopp’s side have tasted so much success in recent seasons.

“When you see African players, people like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, who really play at the highest possible level, then we talk about the best world players not just the best African players,” said the 30-year-old (as quoted by Rousing The Kop).

“I think this is what we need to focus on. They are true examples, role models and give hope to young people, making them desire to work and exceed the limits to achieve one goal. This is how football has impacted on social level in all countries around the world.”

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner recently expressed his wish for Mane and Salah to remain on Merseyside beyond their current contracts that expire at the end of the next season, but so far, there is yet to be any sign of progress on discussions over new deals for the pair.

Salah has 47 goal contributions in 50 games this season (across all competitions), whilst Mane has registered 23 goals and five assists in the same amount of appearances.

The duo will be hoping to put in another impressive showing and add to them figures on Saturday when the Reds face Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Mendy and Mane helped Senegal claim victory in the AFCON earlier this season when they defeated Salah’s Egypt on penalties.

Both of our star men are certainly African and Liverpool legends and will go down in history for the impact they’ve had on their home nations and we certainly hope the upcoming season isn’t the last campaign that we get to see them in the famous Red shirt.
