Edouard Mendy: Chelsea GK gifts Leeds the lead with epic howler | OneFootball

Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy gifted Leeds United the lead in their Premier League clash at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

The two sides went into the game having both enjoyed promising starts to the season.

Both sides were unbeaten having picked up four points from their opening two games.

It was Leeds who scored the opener in west Yorkshire after Mendy, who has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world for the past few years, had a moment of madness in the 33rd minute.

Chelsea won possession back inside their own third and Thiago Silva passed the ball back to Mendy.

Mendy had Brenden Aaronson charging him down but, instead of hoofing the ball clear, he tried to channel his inner Ederson and go around his opponent.

That proved to be a big, big mistake.

Aaronsen was not deceived by Mendy faking to clear the ball. Leeds’ summer signing then managed to dispossess Mendy and, to add insult to injury for Chelsea’s goalkeeper, produced a no-look finish as he rolled the ball into the net from a yard out.

It was a very uncharacteristic mistake from one of the best goalkeepers in the business.

Things went from bad to worse for Mendy and Chelsea shortly after as Leeds doubled their advantage.

Leeds were given a set-piece in a dangerous position in the 37th minute.

Jack Harrison swung the ball in and Jack Harrison rose above Reece James and guided his header into the bottom corner.

There were no further goals for the remainder of the half as Leeds went into the break with a two-goal advantage.

Chelsea need to improve drastically if they are to made a comeback and get anything from the match.
