According to Marca, Edinson Cavani wants to join La Liga side Rayo Vallecano.

The Uruguayan, according to the report, has offered to play with the Madrid-based club next season. The main issue is the player’s salary. Cavani would have to take a pay cut to move to Vallecas for the 2022-23 season.

Cavani has never hidden his desire to play in Spain. Three seasons ago he was strongly linked with a move to Atlético Madrid and was even willing to lower his salary to come to Madrid.

The 35-year-old’s contract at Manchester United expires at the end of this month. In 2021-22, he made 15 Premier League appearances and scored two goals for United, in a season disrupted by injury.

“I really am very grateful, and I’ll be leaving here with a happy memory of that affection they [fans] showed me and always displayed. But it’s also a bit like I mentioned to you. I’ll have that slightly bitter taste of having wanted to contribute more and having really wanted to feature more regularly this season. Of being able to have shown a little more consistency that, on occasions, injuries and other small issues have not allowed me to do. But I want to sincerely thank them from the bottom of my heart, because they have always shown me a lot of affection, and that is very important for a footballer,” Cavani told manutd.com in his farewell interview at Old Trafford recently.
