Since the beginning of the January transfer window, there have been consistent reports linking Giovanni Reyna away from Borussia Dortmund.
Nottingham Forest and Marseille are the two clubs that have shown the most concrete interest in the 21-year-old, and a deal with the Premier League side was believed to be close to completion last week.
However, as reported by Bild, deals with Forest and Marseille are close to falling through, as negotiations have not been convincing for either Dortmund or Reyna. It is understood that Die Schwarzgelben’s valuation of the United States international is yet to be met, while the game time promised to Reyna does not fulfil his wishes.
This is a factor that is significantly important to Reyna, who is hoping to move on from the Westfalenstadion in order to seek increased on-field opportunities. Nevertheless, could he still have a future at Dortmund?
In a press conference after BvB’s Derby Day success over VfL Bochum, Edin Terzić stated that he hopes to have Reyna in his matchday squad for their clash away to Heidenheim on Friday evening:
“I expect him to be available to me on Friday. I haven’t heard anything else. Gio is under contract; Gio is our player and did well when he came on today.”
Against Bochum, Reyna was substituted on just after the hour mark, and while he failed to influence the game with great effect, he played a role in the build-up for Dortmund’s second goal.
Regardless, a move away from the club still appears to be the most likely solution, but it is clear to see that the 21-year-old still has a place in Terzić’s side.
