Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzić hailed the character of his side after they rescued a point in Saturday’s 2-2 Der Klassiker draw with Bayern Munich.
Goals from Leon Goretzka and Leroy Sané put Bayern in control at Signal Iduna Park, but Youssoufa Moukoko halved the deficit before Anthony Modeste scored a dramatic equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time shortly after Bayern had lost Kingsley Coman to a red card.
Speaking afterwards, Terzić insisted his side proved doubters wrong with their late heroics.
“We had a good foothold in the game. But after going 2-0 down, there was a phase in which Bayern would often score their third, fourth or fifth goal,” he said.
“I’d like to get asked the mentality question today,” the BVB boss added.
Despite the euphoria surrounding his last-gasp goal, Modeste lamented not getting the three points that would have seen Dortmund leapfrog the Bavarians and into first place in the Bundesliga.
“I’m really happy. We sealed a point at the last moment. But a draw is not a win,” the veteran striker said.
Dortmund’s attention will now turn to Champions League matters as they prepare to host Sevilla on Tuesday.
