Speaking after Borussia Dortmund’s 3-2 loss to RB Leipzig on Saturday, Dortmund boss Edin Terzic believes they played well and were at points the better team in the game.

On Dortmund’s performance (via Kicker), Terzic said: “I think we were the better team until the red card and I think, if you are completely honest, we were also the better team in the second half.” This is a sentiment that Terzic continued to hold during his interview with ESPN.

Dortmund went down to 10 men early on after Mats Hummels was sent off for a challenge on Loïs Openda. Dortmund would then be pinned back for most of the first half as Leipzig’s one-man advantage shone through and they would take the lead through a Ramy Bensebaini own goal. However, in typical Dortmund fashion this season they equalised just before halftime through Niklas Süle.

Leipzig’s dominance continued in the second half and they would be rewarded when Christoph Baumgartner gave them the lead. Leipzig seemed to have secured the win when Yussuf Poulsen scored a third late on but an even later Niclas Füllkrug goal gave Dortmund a slim chance of winning the game.

Despite Terzic’s comments, Dortmund were once again relatively underwhelming in this game against Leipzig and it begs the question whether Terzic is the right man going forward for Dortmund as they begin to lose their identity under him.
