The wife of Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has hit back at new “fake news” being reported about the 30-year-old this summer.

The Brazil international has been consistently linked with an intention to move to Saudi Arabia throughout the ongoing summer transfer window, with both Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad showing interest at various points throughout the market.

The former have already seen an opening and final proposal rejected by Manchester City, understood to be worth in the region of £25 million, with clear significant differences in valuation forcing the Riyadh club to withdraw interest.

However, that exit from the race to sign Ederson opened up an opportunity for Al-Ittihad to test the Premier League champions’ resolve, with negotiations involving the relevant parties expected throughout the course of the coming days.

And the latest twist in the saga involving the Manchester City goalkeeper has seen input from the player’s wife on social media, who has hit back at new claims of discontent over praise issued to Stefan Ortega towards the end of last season.

Responding to a new Instagram post relaying information provided by The Athletic’s Sam Lee on Ederson’s end to the last campaign, Lais Moraes stated, “Get better information first, this is totally fake news.”

The report in question claimed that Ederson had been ‘affected’ by the praise Stefan Ortega received for his one-on-one save to deny Tottenham’s Son Heung-min in Manchester City’s penultimate Premier League game of the season.

It was further suggested that parts of the praise in question, largely from City supporters, included a suggestion that Ederson himself would not have saved the opportunity that ultimately handed the Premier League champions their title for a fourth successive season.

It is currently business as usual for Ederson and Manchester City, as they both continue their work towards the new season, with the goalkeeper taking on his first minutes for the club during their pre-season tour of the United States.

Replacing Stefan Ortega at the half-time interval of City’s 3-4 defeat to Celtic in North Carolina, in a planned substitution, Ederson would take on the final 45 minutes of the encounter whilst also adopting the captain’s armband at one stage.

Ederson is likely to continue working towards the start of the season without too much concern for off-the-field reports, and would also compete for his place as first-team goalkeeper as usual, should a deal with Saudi Arabia not come to fruition.
