Ederson undergoes tests on injury sustained at Nottingham Forest with first diagnosis revealed | OneFootball

Manchester City’s mainstay first-team goalkeeper Ederson has now reportedly undergone testing on the injury sustained at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The 30-year-old shot-stopper was forced out of action at half-time of Manchester City’s 0-2 win at the City Ground, having sustained a problem during the first-half through a clash with Nuno Espirito Santo’s centre-back Willy Boly.

Speaking after the contest, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola issued a word of warning around the severity of the problem, as he told journalists, “It doesn’t look good. We see tomorrow (Monday) with the doctor.”

Ederson was spotted leaving the City Ground with the rest of his Manchester City teammates with his arm and shoulder in a sling, in what appeared to be a worrying sign for those hoping to see the goalkeeper during the club’s final four Premier League matches.

However, the first reputable reports surrounding the fitness of Ederson have indicated that there may not be anything to worry about after all, despite the images coming away from the City Ground on the weekend.

As per the information of TNT Sports’ Fred Caldeira, tests on Ederson’s latest injury setback sustained against Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon ‘do not show an injury’, and the Brazilian goalkeeper will return to Manchester City training ‘in the next few days’.

Should Ederson be unavailable despite the encouraging initial diagnosis on his injury concern, then Stefan Ortega will be called into action by Pep Guardiola, in a move that is unlikely to worry onlookers given the quality of the German shotstopper.

Ortega’s quality has been emphasised lately by the concern around his long-term future, with the 31-year-old’s current Manchester City contract expiring at the end of next season and a number of clubs hoping to take advantage in the coming months.

Speaking during a recent interview on the decision that he will have to make in the near future, Ortega told German media, “It’s not such a difficult topic. Me and my family, we feel super comfortable in Manchester. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. That’s why there aren’t so many arguments against it.

“But it’s not all my decision alone. There are also two parties involved, the club and the player. I’m quite relaxed about it. There’s a lot to be said for staying here.”
