Manchester City could yet see Ederson depart the club for Saudi Arabia this summer following the emergence of a new potential suitor in recent hours and days.

The 30-year-old Etihad Stadium number one was at the centre of intense transfer interest from Saudi Arabian clubs for a number of months, with Al-Nassr understood to be the most serious of the clubs eyeing a deal.

With Ederson having agreed personal terms with the side that already boast a star-studded club including Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, and Aymeric Laporte, their initial proposal – understood to be worth a package of €30 million – was deemed unacceptable.

Given the seismic difference in transfer valuations established by both Manchester City and Al Nassr, discussions were called off shortly after the opening proposal, with the Saudi club successfully turning to Athletico Paranaense’s Bento.

However, while one club may now be off the table for Ederson this summer, his chances of becoming the latest poster acquisition of the Middle-Eastern game are far from over, with the emergence of a new suitor.

As per the information of transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad have ‘approached’ Manchester City’s Ederson, and the Brazilian goalkeeper remains ‘keen’ on a move to the Saudi Pro League.

It is further explained that talks are now set to follow between both clubs involved, with the Premier League champions expected to continue their insistance on their €50 million to €60 million valuation.

While the deal is no doubt not an easy one for Saudi Pro League clubs, Fabrizio Romano exclaims that ‘Al Ittihad are trying’.

Manchester City’s mainstay goalkeeper has returned to the club for pre-season training, as well as travelled with the rest of the squad to the United States for their four-match tour against Celtic, AC Milan, FC Barcelona, and Chelsea across the next few weeks.

His return despite transfer speculation follows work undertaken by City officials over the summer to ensure the futures of their other goalkeepers, with both Stefan Ortega and Scott Carson signing one-year extension to remain at the club until 2026 and 2025 respectively.

Should Manchester City find a resolution and a suitable deal for the services of Ederson this summer, it is widely understood that the club will turn back to the market to recruit a new back-up choice, and promote Stefan Ortega into the number one role.
