When Real Madrid sold Cristiano Ronaldo, they tried to spread the resulting budget across the team to improve the whole squad.

As it turned out, many of those transfers didn’t work out. But the move for Porto’s Eder Militao has been a solid one so far.

A couple of years down the line and some of those players have already moved on, while Militao is still there and looking for a new contract. CaughtOffside cite claims that Chelsea are monitoring the situation, waiting to see if Madrid pay the Brazilian international what he wants.

It’s still a long way from a conclusion – Militao is a regular for perhaps the biggest team on the planet, and it’s unlikely he will kick up too much of a fuss. We’re sure a compromise will be found.

But if Real end up signing Antonio Rudiger from us on a free transfer in the summer – might an opportunity open up there?
