Eden Hazard believes he is at a “turning point” in his career but says he wouldn’t follow Zinedine Zidane if the Frenchman ended up at Manchester United.

Zidane is understood to have been a huge admirer of Hazard’s and wanted to bring the Belgian to Real Madrid during his time in charge at the Bernabéu.

But despite Madrid’s struggles since the 46-year-old’s departure at the end of last season, Hazard insists Los Blancos are still a very attractive proposition.

The Belgian has made no secret of his desire to one day end up in the Spanish capital and when asked by France Football whether a move to the European champions still interests him, his answer was unequivocal.

“Why not?” said the Chelsea forward.

“You know very well. You are asking me the question, but you already know the answer very well. So you don’t need to ask me the question.”

Zidane, meanwhile, has been strongly tipped to take over at Old Trafford at the end of the season and there has been speculation that Hazard is waiting to see where the coach ends up before deciding his next move.

The player flatly denies those rumours, however.

“No. My career will not be dependent on Zidane,” he said.

“If tomorrow, he goes to Manchester [United], I am not going to go to Manchester [United].

“I am not going to wait for him to take up with a new club to follow him. I think that he likes me. Me, we know all the love that I had for him as a player.

“But I am not waiting for him to sign somewhere so that I can just follow him, not at all.”

For now, Hazard insists he is happy at Stamford Bridge, but it seems the thought of a new challenge is never too far from his mind.

“I have always said it. That after England, I want to discover something else. But there are things that mean I could also stay,” he added.

“I am not far from the summit of my career, that is for sure. Even if it could always be better, that is also clear. I am at a turning point yes. We will take the right route.

“Look at this season. After the World Cup, I intended to leave. In the end, I stayed with Chelsea and I am having one of my best ever seasons. So I do not think that I need something different.

“But that does not mean that I will be better.”
