Eddie Howe was Burnley manager for a year back in 2011. The young manager decided to leave Bournemouth for the North West of England and take on the chance to bring The Clarets to the Premier League. Speaking to The Coaches’ Voice in 2020, Howe’s comments could be seen as good news for Celtic as they are reportedly battling Crystal Palace for the signature of the 43-year-old.

Howe insists that given the nature of the job, he needs to move himself away from his comfort zone so that he can fully commit to the job.

“Burnley was far enough away for me to fully commit to the job. That was one of my worries, people would say go to London and you can come back at the weekends, it’s not too far and you can keep your life here.

“For me that was never an option, I think I learned from management that I was going to be 24/7 and I needed to commit and move my whole family to a new area. So Burnley attracted me on that side and also the fact there was a real challenge there.”

Crystal Palace are reportedly lining up Howe to replace Roy Hodgson as manager but if the comments from 2020 are anything to go by, Howe won’t be going to London as it means that he cannot fully discharge his duties as manager – whilst Celtic means he can totally immerse himself in the club and the project.

Howe ultimately left Burnley to return to Bournemouth after his mother passed away, someone he was very close to. As a result, Howe became a legend with the South Coast club, promoting them to the Premier League while maintaining their status for five years.

Brendan Rodgers is reportedly talking to Howe about the prospect of becoming the next Celtic manager. Rodgers was an instrumental in the success of the last few years and it is a case of what could of been as he sits in the Top 4 with Leicester City. Meanwhile Celtic will look to rebuild under Dominic McKay, a new Director of Football and a new manager with the chance to knock Rangers off their newly found perch.
