After confirmation that Newcastle United will be missing both Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon in the Carabao Cup Final, Eddie Howe has been talking about it to the media.

The club deciding an appeal against Anthony Gordon’s red card had no chance of succeeding.

Whilst Wednesday morning seeing Newcastle United release an official statement revealing that Lewis Hall needs surgery and will miss the rest of the season.

Eddie Howe saying that Lewis Hall has been particularly hard hit by what has happened.

The lifelong Newcastle United fan having been set for his first ever cup final at Wembley with NUFC and then potentially another two Wembley appearances straight after. Thomas Tuchel set to name his first ever England squad next week, for games at home to Albania and Latvia.

With now no club football over a period of five weeks, Anthony Gordon will be hoping to be included by Tuchel.

Eddie Howe talking to Keith Downie of Sky Sports after Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon having been ruled out of the Carabao Cup Final – 5 March 2025:

“Lewis has been particularly hit by the news and the timing of it.

“It has been particularly tough for him with the Cup Final just around the corner and also England on the horizon.

“It is a nasty injury so we need to make sure he’s treated right and hopefully he’s back to full strength for next season.

“But he is a strong character.

“That left side for us has been a constant source of creativity for us this year so it is a big blow, both players have been outstanding.

“Yeah, I don’t quite know how to put a positive spin on it, but I’ll try…

“It is an opportunity for other players and we will just have to try and find a solution.

“Our challenge now is to regroup – and we will.”
