During the 28 months that Eddie Howe has been in charge at Newcastle United, he has faced 24 other Premier League clubs.
In this climate of negativity, I thought a feelgood moment was called for.
Going through the games against these 24 Premier League clubs, in all competitions, found so many happy memories that instantly come to mind where 21 of them are concerned.
Here are some of those highlights that come instantly to mind.
Arsenal
Home wins in May 2022 and November 2023.
Aston Villa
That 3-1 at Villa Park in January, plus at SJP 1-0, 4-0 and 5-1.
Bournemouth
League Cup progress thanks to an own goal last season.
Brentford
Won the last four, including that 5-1 at SJP.
Brighton
A 4-1 win in May 2023 that all but ensured fourth place.
Burnley
Home and away wins in 2021/22, comfortable 2-0 this season.
Chelsea
The 1-0 big win just before the Qatar World Cup and 4-1 hammering at SJP this season.
Crystal Palace
Easy 4-0 home win this season, that Nick Pope inspired League Cup penalties victory last season.
Everton
The 4-1 away victory last season, including THAT Isak run.
Fulham
The highlight a 4-1 away win last season.
Leeds
That key 1-0 away win, Shelvey free-kick.
Leicester
The 3-0 away win directly after the Qatar World Cup and 2-0 progress into the League Cup semi.
Liverpool
Luton
Man City
Should have won that 3-3 at SJP when leading 3-1, finally did it with the 1-0 League Cup win despite Eddie Howe changing all 10 outfield players.
Man Utd
Won the last three, including that 3-0 hammering at Old Trafford in the League Cup.
Norwich
A 3-0 away victory in April 2022.
Nottingham Forest
Away victories these past two seasons, as well as the win that kicked off the 2022/23 season.
Sheffield United
The 8-0 away victory.
Southampton
Five wins under Eddie Howe including home and away in League Cup semi and that first ever Bruno start and stunning backheel goal.
Tottenham
Home and away wins last season, including 5-0 up after 21 minutes at St James’ Park.
Watford
The 5-1 away win last season.
Wolves
Three wins at St James’ Park.
It is quite staggering the sheer number of happy memories that Eddie Howe has created in just 28 months.
A reminder that there is FAR MORE to be positive about than negative, even when the fates have conspired against us and the curse of so many missing players.
Of the three exceptions…
Liverpool have a hoodoo over us, I still can’t believe how they not only avoided defeat in August but totally fluked that 2-1 comeback win.
With Watford, Eddie Howe’s NUFC were on their way to victory and then one bit of poor defending right at the end allowed an equaliser in January 2022.
As for Luton, NUFC came back from 4-2 down and could / should have still won, having to settle for a 4-4 comeback draw.
