Ed Woodward resigns as Manchester United vice-chairman amid European Super League backlash | OneFootball

Ed Woodward has reportedly resigned from the position of Manchester United executive vice-chairman.

The resignation came amid the massive criticism the club has faced over its involvement in the European Super League (ESL).

As per reports, Woodward is expected to stay with the club until the end of the season.

The report further added that Woodward had already discussed with the club owners, the Glazers, that he would finish the year in his role, but the announcement has been brought forward to Tuesday.

Reports of Woodward’s resignation broke out after multiple platforms indicated that Chelsea and Manchester City are planning to pull out of the ESL.

But, as per Sky Sports News, the decision regarding Woodward is unrelated to the Super League uproar.

United are believed to have been one of the driving forces behind ESL, with club owner Joel Glazer being named as the vice-chairman of the league.

United have faced massive backlash over its decision to become a part of the breakaway league involving 11 other clubs.

Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and club legends including David Beckham, Eric Cantona and Gary Neville were among those who had criticised the club for being associated with ESL.

Several current players, including Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, also took to social media to speak out against the league.
