Ed Woodward held an emergency briefing with angry Manchester United players after the club confirmed their plans to breakaway into a European Super League.

The Glazer owners and Woodward have been leading figures in United’s involvement in a breakaway European Super League that involves 12 founding clubs starting a new midweek competition.

Co-owner Joel Glazer described how the proposed league will ‘open a new chapter for European football’ in an official statement on the club’s website on Sunday.

The news has stunned the sporting world, with United players among those startled by the plans that will tear up the foundations football is built upon.

And it has been revealed by the Daily Mail that ‘seriously unimpressed’ members of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad made their feelings known about the way this has unfolded in a Zoom meeting from the Carrington training ground on Monday morning.

The report claims some were unhappy in the way manager Solskjaer was hung out to dry when asked about the Super League in his post-match interview with Sky after the now unimportant Premier League win over Burnley.

Solskjaer was the first United figure who was forced to speak out about the issue on decisions that he was not involved in at all.

Players were equally frustrated by that and finding out the plans that will directly concern them in the media themselves.

The dirty dozen have shown they are as cowardly as they are greedy by offering no communication to those that really matter within football clubs; namely playing staff and fans.

The Mail’s report adds that Woodward tried to explain the club’s stance on the Super League but was met by a ‘lukewarm’ reception by United players.
