According to the Daily Mail, Ed Woodward held an emergency meeting with several Manchester United players on Monday afternoon who were unimpressed by the club’s decision to join the proposed European Super League.

United alongside 11 other clubs – Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus – are involved in a plan to form a new competition.

The owners of Red Devils have played a very significant role in planning the breakaway league.

Joel Glazer, the owner of Manchester United, has been appointed as the vice-chairman of the Super League.

This massive announcement has been greeted with fury across the football world.

Some United players were left fuming with the way they discovered the news and how club bosses threw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer “under the bus.”

The Red Devils defeated Burnley 3-1 on Sunday but the post-match questions were largely about the European Super League.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Norwegian manager said: “I can’t say too much – my focus has been on this game. I got the news today as well.

“I haven’t looked into it – I’ve been just focusing on this game. I just need to sit down and see what it is. The club will probably comment on it later.”

Clearly, the owners of the club and Woodward did not involve Solskjaer in their discussions and left him alone to face the media.

Woodward has since talked to players during a Zoom call at Carrington but his explanation was not well received.

A source quoted by DailyMail said: “Some of the players were seriously unimpressed.”

“Not only that they were left to find out by the media about what had happened, but that their manager was left to face the press when the owners had concocted this.

“Woodward attempted to appease them, but the response was lukewarm at best. It hasn’t gone down well with many of them.”
