Singer songwriter Ed Sheeran has teamed up with Marcus Rashford to help feed the nation’s school children by opening his own breakfast club.
The 29-year-old has opened his restaurant Bertie Blossoms to answer Rashford’s rallying call to offer free meals for kids during half-term and beyond.
A number of small businesses have offered their help after MPs rejected a motion to extend free school meals over the holidays, as per The Guardian.
Sheeran’s restaurant has joined the list.
An Instagram post read: “In these difficult times, Berties want to offer anyone who is normally entitled to a free school meal or who is struggling in these strange times, a hot breakfast.
“Drop in between 9am-11am tomorrow or 8am-11am for the rest of the week and we’ll be offering a hot breakfast, fruit and a hot or cold drink to kids — no questions asked.
“Either eat-in or take-out. We are with you, we are behind you and we love you! Spread the word.”
According to The Sun, Bertie Blossoms was forced to close in March. The UK newspaper quotes Sheeran’s representative as saying: “The business, co-owned by Ed Sheeran and Stuart Camp, is not, and will not, be accessing any Government scheme of any kind, including furloughing, grants, loans and so on.”
Sheeran did not accept support from the Government in the wake of the pandemic and has shown a degree of generosity to support Rashford in helping those in need.
On a side note, the restaurant Bertie Blossoms was named after his wife Cherry Seaborn.
It’s great to see so many people coming together — from all walks of life. Coldplay and One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson joined the list this morning.
