Eberl was not there! Details of Bayern’s negotiations with Tuchel revealed | OneFootball

It was only last week that Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel publicly announced that no agreement had been reached in the negotiations for further co-operation. Munich’s search for a new coach is therefore starting from scratch. It has now become known how the negotiations for a possible contract extension between Bayern and Tuchel went.

Sport BILD has now published a transcript of the negotiations between the two parties. According to the report, the face-to-face meeting at Säbener Straße took place on 15 May. However, the meeting had to take place without the most important driving force on the club side. Max Eberl was unable to be there in person due to another appointment, but was able to join the conference via mobile phone, although he himself initiated the idea of a possible extension with Tuchel.

The meeting was publicised by a photo of Tuchel’s advisor Olaf Meinking, who was briefly seen at the window during the meeting with Christoph Freund and Jan-Christian Dreesen. This picture then made the rounds on social media. After the negotiations, the 50-year-old left the German record champions‘ premises with his advisor.

Tuchel exit: Rummenigge and Hoeneß partly responsible

According to Sport BILD, it quickly became clear during the talks that the commitment of the Bayern bosses was not clear enough for the 50-year-old. Tuchel’s cancellation followed in the late afternoon of the same day. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß, two powerful officials on the supervisory board, are said to have been partly responsible for the cancelled deal, as they had doubts about the success of a further collaboration, including a contract extension.

These doubts were based on the many severance payments that the German record champions have had to pay to former employees in recent years. Most recently, Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic, among others, received large sums after being released from their contracts early. The club’s top bosses therefore felt it made more sense to let Tuchel’s contract expire in 2025 rather than offer him the desired extension until at least 2026.
