Ebere Eze lit up the Championship in his time at QPR with plenty of flair and silky skills, but had history been different, he could have been plying his trade for one of a number of EFL clubs.
The now-Crystal Palace attacking midfielder, who was capped by Gareth Southgate for England earlier this season, made his name in the EFL with a loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers and then three seasons of stardom at Queens Park Rangers.
However, before debuting for the Hoops in 2016/17, the Greenwich-born man spent time bouncing around many academies both in London and further afield, with no clubs apparently recognising his talent, which these days is more than clear to see.
In a now trending clip on X (formerly Twitter), Eze sat down with the Second Tier Podcast and discussed the multiple clubs that rejected him during his youth days.
In the clip, available below, the attacker details clubs such as Reading, Sunderland, Millwall and Bristol City being those that turned the mercurial talent down.
He begins by talking about his very early years at Premier League side Arsenal, where he spent five years, and then, following his release from the North Londoners, he goes on to say, "From there, went to Fulham and played there for about two and a half years, then got released.
"I was there for two years, and then again got released. "I then went on trial to a few teams afterwards. They were Sunderland and Bristol City and both rejected me.
"Then, thankfully to God, QPR signed me on a years contract. I worked hard there for three or four months and then got given a new contract, and from there started to grow."
And grow he did. In his first opportunity in mens elite football with Wycombe Wanderers, who he joined on loan for the first part of the 2017/18 season, he made 20 appearances in League Two, scoring five times and assisting once.
Away from just paper stats though, ask any Wycombe fan and they will tell you that he was just mesmerizing to watch with Eze producing plenty of flair and skill and displaying natural confidence on the ball at just 19 years of age.
Following his short stay with the Chairboys, he linked back up with the R's and continued to excel, featuring in 17 games in the remainder of the 2017/18 season, where he scored his first two goals for Rangers, the first of which came against Sunderland - a team who had only rejected him a couple of years before.
Ahead of the 2018/19 season, Ian Holloway - the man who had put faith in the young man - left Loftus Road and was replaced by former Newcastle and England boss Steve McClaren.
However, it's fair to say McClaren put even more faith in the youngster, by handing him a new three-hyear deal in that summer of 2018, as well as the clubs number 10 shirt.
The attacking-midfielder became a crucial part of McClaren's team, as he told West London Sport, "Eze has great talent, but he does great work off the ball in terms of helping the team defend.
"We're asking him to do that, and it's important that he does that in terms of his development."
In total for that season, he would make 46 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and assisting three.
His final season for QPR was the crescendo in his starring for the West London side, where his talent made a lot of clubs stand up and take notice, and made those who had previously rejected him feel like complete clowns.
In 48 games across all competitions for the R's in 2019/20, he would score 14 goals, assist eight, and finally, seal a move across the River Thames to Crystal Palace.
Since leaving Loftus Road in 2020 for a reported initial £16m, the now 25-year-old has continued to light up matches at Selhurst Park, and around the country, with his silky talents.
In his debut season in the Premier League, he would play in 34 out of the 38 available matches, which, considering the step-up between the two divisions that some players fail to make, is amazing.
He would have to wait until the 2022/23 season to display his best performance to both Palace fans, and football fans in the wider community.
In a season where he played in every single Premier League game under Roy Hodgson, he would score ten league goals, proving he had finally made it in the world of football, and putting all those who thought he wouldn't ever make it to shame.
In the current season, the Palace starlet has hit seven strikes into the net, and assisted four. Along with this, he has committed his international career to England and is hoping that his continued form may help him gain a spot in Gareth Southgate's squad for the Euros this summer.
Hindsight is certainly a powerful tool, and had the likes of Sunderland, Reading, Millwall and more been able to use it, they definitely wouldn't have rejected and released the Englishman and made themselves look as foolish as they now do.
Plus they also would have had an asset on their hands that, had he displayed his QPR and Palace form, with Eze surely set to be on the radar of massive clubs ahead of the summer.
