'Ebb and flow' WSL journey currently on upward swing

Teams will be tested in a multitude of ways over the course of a season. Seemingly at times, at the flip of the switch, a side can go on a run. It can also be weeks in which a goal is even scored. What's true one week can prove to shape into an entirely different reality the next.

While speaking on her Daily Brightness podcast with Millie Bright, Rachel Daly spoke on how the WSL campaign has shaped up for Aston Villa Women. As she called it, 'the ebbs and flows' can look very different and consequently give a different feeling around the players, depending on how things are shaping up.

It's impossible, maybe other than Bright's Chelsea, as Daly hinted at, to go through a season without some form of serious resistance. How a side responds to difficult moments is ultimately what determines success. Every club will have the same goal, at least at first, of wanting to compete for a title.

Even for those for whom winning it all very quickly becomes an unlikely pursuit, there are still ways to prove themselves and do justice for the badge they are playing for. For Natalia Arroyo, the Villa boss has taken over after a bad initial spell resulted in her finding herself in a position to take over. The ensuing fight to avoid the drop-down is what has become the main focus for AVWFC.

Since then, the play has been looking improved, and Daly mentioned how she and her teammates are feeling more confident and comfortable in the system. From watching Villa over the past weeks, especially, this encouraging sign is clear to see.

Difficult Arsenal side next

Despite the series of matches without being able to get the desired result, they are now winners of two straight and have seemingly found their best form. While battling it out with Crystal Palace to avoid coming in last, Villa has found the ideal time to have things start to come together.

With a week away until AVWFC play Arsenal, Arroyo will continue to find ways to keep everything sharp around the grounds. The manager continues to find ways to further implement her vision. It's always difficult to take over, especially as late as she did. With only three more matches to go, the initial goal of staying up in the WSL is looking more and more secure. Keeping the level of play up and being able to challenge a Manchester United or Bright's Chelsea isn't too much further away if she is able to keep moving forward in the right direction.
