Tottenham urged to send Gareth Bale back to Real Madrid by Dimitar Berbatov

Speaking to Stats Perform News (h/t Independent), former Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov has insisted that the club should send Gareth Bale back to Real Madrid if his form does not improve.

Gareth Bale rejoined Tottenham seven years after having left the club for Real Madrid. Having signed on a season-long loan deal, the 31-year-old Welshman has struggled to make the impact that was expected of him.

Instead, Bale has spent the majority of his second stint with the club on the treatment tables or on the substitutes bench. Indeed, the winger has featured just 12 times across all competitions, scoring three goals in the process. (h/t Transfermarkt)

With the winger not performing at the desired level, Berbatov insists that Tottenham should not look to extend his stay at the club beyond this season if his form fails to pick up.

“I was expecting a lot of him coming to Spurs, to shake things up and for him, Son and Kane to make it a trio up front that can rival the Liverpool attacking trio, for example.” “For the moment it is 100 per cent not working. Hopefully, he can get back to 100 per cent and start playing. If not, in the end, it is an easy decision – he can go back to Madrid.”

  • Tottenham and Liverpool keen on signing Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella
  • Tottenham Hotspur keen on signing Danny Ings in the summer transfer

While it was never going to be easy for Bale to replicate the same levels as his first stint with us, it goes without saying that his second spell has been very underwhelming. Hopefully, the Welshman manages to stay fit for an extended period and strings together some good performances in the coming weeks.
